How to make worry dolls

What’s a worry doll?

There is a legend amongst the Highland Indian villages of Guatemala: “If you have a problem, then share it with a worry doll. Before going to bed, tell one worry to each doll, then place them beneath your pillow. Whilst you sleep, the dolls will take your worries away!”

Where can you buy worry dolls?

How to make worry dolls yourself:

Matériel: scissors, knife, glue, felt, wool left overs, pipe cleaners, color pens, 6 small wood pearls for the heads, 9 matches for the bodies and legs.
  1. Cut 9 matches in two halves to make 6 bodies. Scrape the red off the matches’ tip.
  2. With a knife, make the edge of 6 halves pointy, then put some glue on the pointy tips and put a pearl on top of each to make a head.
  3. Glue the legs to the body as the shown on the drawing:poupee-anti-soucis6
  4. Roll a bit of pipe cleaner around the body, under the head, so as to make the torso and the arms.
  5. Cut out a skirt or trousers made of felt and glue them to the legs of the doll.
  6. Draw the mouth, the nose and the eyes with a pen.
  7. Cut short straws of wool and glue them on top of the head to make hair, and there you go!
